When working with video files there are so many options that sometimes it can get confusing, but one fact remains and that is that AVI files are the closest one can get to original quality while still being a compressed file. For this reason, AVI files tend to take up a lot of space. The WMV file though, is able to keep high quality while reducing the file size when converted properly. The key is finding a way to convert avi to wmv, Auspisoft has just the product.

Installing the program was simple and upon loading it up, a screen with a quick start guide came up, explaining exactly where to begin for various tasks the program could perform. For the video conversion, the "Add Video" button is the first place to start, which is located near the top and is really easy to locate. Upon clicking the button, the file browser comes up to allow one to navigate to where the video is they want to convert. If multiple files are needed, the browser allows them to be selected simultaneously with the "shift" key for a continuous list of files and with the "ctrl" key for scattered files.
Once the files have been added, it is important to go to the bottom of the window to the "Profile" section. Click on the box itself and a list will open of various devices, common formats and recent selections. The program has a very versatile list of formats to work with. Under each category there are specific formats and devices that the video can be optimized and converted to be played on. A user defined area is also available if custom settings need to be saved to be used with future files.
To find the WMV option, go to "Common Video" and it will be located there. There are also descriptions of the various formats for those who may know what they want the video for but do not know what format they need. Select the WMV option and the window will close with the new profile selected. If there are certain specifications required, clicking on the video file and then clicking on the settings button near the profile box will bring up a window to customize the conversion.
In the settings box, the presets are available should it need to be changed again. Since the window will not have to be closed to change the preset, this is a very big convenience. If the resolution needs to be changed, if can be done here, it can also be left the same to avoid quality loss. If a new frame rate is desired or a different video encoder should be used to allow playback on older devices, that can be changed as well. The audio settings can be changed as well. Because these settings can greatly affect the final converted video, they should only be altered by those who know what they are doing and require something very specific. After the desired adjustments are made, click "OK" to close the window.
Going back to the queue, the "Estimated Size" area will display is prediction on the file size based on the settings and profile that have been altered. If a certain file size is needed, this is a great way to know how close it will be and the settings can be adjusted to fit the requirement. If the computer also only has so much space, this is a great way to ensure the video will be small enough to be stored on the computer.
If the file needs to be stored in a different directory, this can be changed before the conversion process is started as well. The "Output" selection box is just underneath "Profile". The down arrow on the box will reveal previous output directories for easy selection. If a new directory is required, it can be found by clicking the "Browse" button. Sometimes there are circumstances where the output directory needs to be brought up in Windows, this can be done using the "Find Target" button. The output folder specifies where all of the converted files are saved to, but the profile has the option of being applied to all of the videos or different for each video. Beside the profile box there is a check box that reads "Apply to All". This box is checked by default but when it is unchecked, it allows each video profile to be different by just clicking on the video file to select it. After all of the settings are set to the desired values and the output directory is proper, clicking "Start" will begin the conversion process. The process could take a long time or be really short depending on the files and the conversion settings. Should the process take a while and the computer needs to be shut down later, there is an option to have it automatically shut itself off after it is finished.
With WMV files being able to keep much of the quality of the original file, the final output has very little loss after being converted. If the result was not perfect, the settings in the program can be altered until it is acceptable. However every computer converts things differently depending on the hardware inside of the machine, the Auspisoft Video Converter takes full advantage of this to convertavi to wmv.
