The program is easy to install and after opening it up, instructions are the first thing one sees which explains where to start with the different tasks the software is capable of. The first step in converting video is to click the "Add Video" button, which is big and easy to find. The file browser comes up after clicking, from here one is is able to find the files they would like to convert. If multiple files are needed, they can be selected at once with the "ctrl" key, if the files are scattered, or the "shift key", if the files are in a list.
After all of the files have been added to the list, the "Profile" section will be the next area to drift down to. Clicking on the profile box will result in a list of formats available to work with, sorted neatly by the device the video will be played on. Under each device category there are specific products. These presets are designed to work best with the listed device and will allow for an optimal viewing experience. If something specific is required, the settings can be saved and added to the "User Defined" area for later instant use.
In the "Common Video" section, WMV can be found. Also if a user needs a video for a specific purpose but does not know what the proper format is for it, there are descriptions of each format. Clicking on the WMV option will result in the profile window closing. Sometimes the default settings may not produce the exact results desired. By clicking on the video file and then the settings button, a box will open that will allow the conversion to be tweaked.Once in the settings, the format can be changed if needed. If the user should realize that this is not the proper format, it is convenient that the settings window will not have to be closed. Some profiles involve decreasing the resolution, the amount it is reduced can be altered here as well as left the same as the original. Sometimes a different frame rate or encoder is needed to achieve the required results, this can be altered here. As can the audio settings to match the needed specifications. However these are more advanced settings and the standard defaults will do for most users, so if these settings are being altered, it should be done so by someone who understands them. Once everything is set to the desired settings, click "OK"
Upon looking at the video list, all the videos will have an "Estimated Size", which is a prediction based on settings to determine how big the files will be. If the video needs to be a certain size or be under a certain size, the settings can be adjusted until the estimate is close. For computers where limited space is an issue, this is a great way to ensure video files are never too big for the computer. For converted files that need to be stored in a separate directory, the software allows that to be changed as well. Just under "Profile" lies the "Output" box. Recently used output directories can be found by clicking on the down arrow, while new directories can be navigated to by clicking on "Browse". If the directory needs to be brought up to be cleaned, organized or for whatever reason, this can be achieved easily using the button "Find Target".
The output folder applies to all the videos but the profile can be separate for each video or the same. To the right of the profile, there is a check box beside "Apply to All". If unchecked, the video profile for each video can be different by simply clicking on the video and then altering it's profile settings. By default this box is checked. After the output directory is set and the conversion settings are proper, click "Start" to begin converting. Depending on the conversion settings, the process may be really quick or take a long time. If the process is going to take a while and the computer will be unmonitored, it can be shut down automatically with the option on the conversion screen.
After being converted, the final output keeps much of it's quality, the way WMV files are supposed to. The settings can always be changed some more should the final output not reach the exact requirements. By taking advantage of each computer's unique hardware to convert avi to wmv in the best possible manner, the Auspisoft Video Converter is able to do an effective job converting video.
